Utility model applications

In some cases it may make sense to prefer a utility model to a patent.

Patent protection

The "small patent

Utility models, like patents, protect technical innovations. However, there are some differences between the two protective rights. A utility model, for example, has a term of 10 instead of 20 years and is not examined by the patent office.

Furthermore, a utility model is registered within a few weeks. The granting of a patent, on the other hand, extends over several years. It may therefore make sense to prefer a utility model application in some cases.

Protection after
a short time

The Patent and Trade Mark Office only checks the formal requirements. Therefore, a utility model is registered within a few weeks.

Subject
Examination

If the legal requirements are not met, third parties may attack your property right. We will check your project in advance if you wish.

Duration of protection
of 10 years

With the utility model application, your innovation is protected for 10 years. You enjoy the exclusive rights of use during the entire term.
